Dr Mikao Usui was born in Japan in the Mid 19th century. He traveled throughout Japan meditating and studying at Buddhist Temples for spiritual enlightenment. He had a need to learn more about self-healing and the healing of others.
Introduced to the Classics he learned to read the Sanskrit text. Within the he read of a formula for tuning into a higher spiritual power for healing.
However, having read the formula he was unable to use it without instruction from a Master. Yoga Sutras have been passed down through the centuries by word of mouth. The Master memorising short paragraphs to elaborate on, for teaching devotees. These Sutras were later written by Patangali and are known as the Aphorisms or Sutras
He travelled to the holy mountain of Kori-Yama where he fasted and meditated, following the instructions in this formula, for twenty one days.
He
set out twenty one stones in front of himself and removed one with each
day that passed. He then stood up just before dawn in the dark of the night
Looking out to the horizon he saw a point of light coming towards him. As
he looked at the light he realised there was a consciousness which was communicating
with him. This light had the healing power he had been looking for. It was
communicating to him that if he wanted the light to touch him. it would
strike with a power which may kill. He decided that what he most wanted
to do was help heal the sick and the ray of light struck him in the forehead,
knocking him unconscious.
Rising out from his physical body he was shown beautiful bubbles of light filled with colours. In the bubbles were symbols. As he contemplated each symbol he received an attunement for that symbol and knowledge of its use tor healing
He was initiated into the use of the Ray of healing Light. He infinite source of Rei and Ki the power behind all living things in the Universe. Dr Usui continued his spiritual path. healing and meditating. During one such meditation he learned that tor healing to last there must be a commitment also to help ones self. The recipient of healing must take an active part and the ReiKi healer must also take commitment to work on their own healing and self development.
Before passing on Dr Usui taught the system to Dr Hayashi who took on 13 apprentices. Mrs Takata was his last apprentice. following her 1st degree she spent two and half years in practice with him before receiving her masters.
